Tehran, Iran (4E) – Major General Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) since 1998 and leader of Iran’s covert wars in the Middle East, said Donald Trump should address any threats against Iran directly to him.
Soleimani warned Trump to stop threatening Iran with war or risk exposing itself to the war it seeks.
“As a soldier, it is my duty to respond to your threats … If you want to use the language of threat … talk to me, not to the president (Hassan Rouhani). It is not in our president’s dignity to respond to you,” said Soleimani as quoted by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
“We are near you, where you can’t even imagine… Come. We are ready … If you begin the war, we will end the war,” said Soleimani. “You know that this war will destroy all that you possess.”
The Quds Force headed by Gen. Soleimani is responsible for Iran’s extraterritorial military and clandestine operations such as those in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, among others.
He reminded Trump of Iran’s asymmetric power in the region and warned that Iran will react to any Amertican provocation.
“You (Trump) threaten us with paying a price like few countries have ever paid. Trump, this is the language of nightclubs and gambling halls,” said Gen. Soleimani.
Gen. Soleimani was drawn into the word war against the twitter-addicted U.S. president when Trump fired off an angry tweet against Iranian president Hassan Rouhani last week. Trump tweeted:
NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE.
WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!
Trump was apparently irritated by a statement Rouhani made to the effect that “America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars.”
Iran quickly brushed aside this twitter rant by Trump and countered with an all-caps Twitter rant from Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif that said: “COLOR US UNIMPRESSED: The world heard even harsher bluster a few months ago. And Iranians have heard them — albeit more civilized ones — for 40 yrs. We’ve been around for millennia & seen fall of empires, incl our own, which lasted more than the life of some countries.”
“BE CAUTIOUS!” he yelled at Trump.
