Washington, DC, United States (4E) – Former FBI Director James Comey confirms our worst fears about president Donald Trump, describing the former businessman as “untethered to truth,” “unethical” and a “congenital liar” who lies about all things large and small.
Comey made these stunning comments in his explosive book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership,” whose hardcover edition gets to bookstores on April 17. The book has become an instant bestseller online, especially on Amazon.
In his 304-page exposé, Comey likened Trump’s maniacal obsession with demanding total loyalty from his underlings as worthy of a Mafia boss, and called Trump’s inner circle a “Mob family.” Comey also reveals what he prefers to call Trump’s “mob”-like approach to leadership. He also lashed out at Trump’s character, which he says created “the forest fire that is the Trump presidency.”
Comey’s exposé offers a lurid portrait of Trump as a man unconcerned with ethical, legal and moral norms and only with preening himself. Comey also said Trump is a blabbermouth who uses his non-stop tirades to pull “all those present into a silent circle of assent.”
Comey’s book comes 11 months after Comey was fired by Trump, who tried to cajole Comey into abandoning an investigation into Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Comey’s firing, however, ignited a chain of events that led to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and alleged collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign.
A former prosecutor, Comey wrote he saw much in common between Trump and the mob bosses he had prosecuted. Then there’s Trump’s Mob-like obsession with personal loyalty.
“The silent circle of assent,” wrote Comey. “The boss in complete control. The loyalty oaths. The us-versus-them worldview. The lying about all things, large and small, in service to some code of loyalty that put the organization above morality and above the truth.”
“What is happening now is not normal,” wrote Comey.
“This President is unethical, and untethered to truth and institutional values. His leadership is transactional, ego driven and about personal loyalty.”
Of Trump’s infamous demand at the White House in January 2017 that “I need loyalty,” Comey wrote: “To my mind, the demand was like Sammy the Bull’s Cosa Nostra induction ceremony — with Trump in the role of the family boss, asking me if I have what it takes to be a ‘made man’.”
