New York, NY, United States (4E) – Donald Trump is setting records as the worst ever American president, with another poll revealing that more voters want to watch Trump’s impeachment hearings than would vote for him in the next presidential election in 2020.
A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey found focused on public opinion of Trump, his policies and the GOP shows that only 36 percent of voters said they’d “definitely” or “probably” vote Mr Trump if he ran for re-election in 2020.
It also shows that 52 percent said they’d vote for a Democrat.
More worrying for Trump is that 41 percent of voters said they’d like to see Congress hold impeachment hearings for him, while 54 percent said they don’t want this to happen.
Previous polls found support for impeaching Trump at 49 percent. Impeaching a President requires a majority vote in the House, and a two-thirds vote in the Senate.
Articles of impeachment for Trump have been introduced in the House of Representatives, but were killed by the Republican-controlled chamber.
Representative Al Green (D-TX) forced a vote on his articles of impeachment earlier this month. He claims Trump committed “high misdemeanours” stemming from his “bigotry, hatred and hostility.”
Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN) introduced five articles of impeachment against Trump in November, but has not forced a vote. He acknowledged that impeaching Trump would be nearly impossible in a Republican-controlled Congress.
“I don’t expect the House Judiciary Committee, which is operated like a branch of the administration, to take up hearings,” said Cohen.
Trump took office as the least popular incoming President in at least four decades. In October, he had the worst approval ratings for any first-year President since 1981. A CNN poll earlier this month found his approval rating was the lowest of any President at the end of his first year.
He’s continued to break records with historically low approval ratings confirmed by poll after poll from the Left and Right.
